1st edition of a classic

Dr Fishman has penned a wonderful book (since revised 2012) on responsible opiate prescribing. This is an edition for the collector as the new edition can be purchased for $16.95 on the FSMB website.

Well written, tighly focused book for those involved in treating, or receiving treatment for chronic pain.

This is an interesting book about a serious problem our nation is facing: rampant abuse of opiods, such a Vicodin, Percocet, and Oxycontin. Although I bought the book for personal educational purposes (I am an MD), I believe it to be even more valuable for any individual in chronic pain that is not well managed. Living in chronic pain can be hell, but addiction can be just as bad. This short 2 evening read offers guidlines, for physicians and patients, who need a reference on what is considered appropriate and acceptable by todays standards. More and more patients are realizing they MUST be their own advocates if they are to be well served. Reading this book can level the playing field and help a patient understand if thay are being appropriately treated for their pain, or not. I gave the book only 3 stars simply because of the limited audience it is intended for, as it does not make useful general reading for those uninvolved in this subject. But I give it 5 stars if you have any reason to need to know the rules, guidlines and thinking of major medical and legislatibe groups on responsible use of opiods drugs for chronic pain..
