A must for Michiganders of all ages!

I was so excited to see a Twelve Days of Christmas book based on the wonderful state of Michigan. Our oldest son has worn out our Twelve Days of Christmas books and could listen to any variety of the song. Our house tries to promote all things Michigan, so when I saw this book at Greenfield Village today, I new I had to buy it. I didn't realize what a find it was until bedtime, when it was the surprise book I read to our 3, 7 and 9 year old-they all loved it-and so did I. This book does more to detail the many wonders, joys and history of the great state of Michigan than some history books.
Each 'day' is accompanied by a lovely letter written by a child experiencing Michigan for the first time with her cousin who is a Michigander. Not only do children learn about our state tree, they learn the history of Vernors, the Big Three, the love of all sports-especially the winter ones enjoyed on the ice and on the snow, Sleeping Bear Dunes (recently voted by Good Morning America viewers as the most beautiful place in our country), cider, cherries, music-the list could go on for more than twelve days.
This book should be under the tree for every Michigan child (or teenager, or adult). I recommend buying a copy for your child's teacher as a Christmas gift-what a wonderful way to teach Michigan history during the Christmas season. I also recommend sending it to family who live out of state. This is a great book to show how wonderful our state is-even in a trying economy-there is no better place to live, and no better book to detail it!(I'm glad I bought two copies today) Thank you Susan Thomas for doing such an amazing job!

I am a third grade teacher and this book is a great addition to my Michigan studies collection. The students really enjoy the new words to a song they already know.

12days of Christmas in Michigan

I'm an elementary teacher and loved that this book would be great for younger children as well as older. It could be used to help teach MI history in third grade, or have students adapt things from the story. It was a gift for my grandson who lives out of state. He'll like going places in the book and doing some of the things shown. It's just plain fun to see how the state is presented. Our school librarian saw it and ordered it immediately.
