Arduino taken to a new level
By tony_w
This book really sets itself apart from the other beginner Arduino books. All of the getting started and beginner material is there so no knowledge is needed to get started. The projects are amazing and very creative plus the author shows every component and exactly where to get it. It is amazingly simple to get these advanced projects working. Connecting to the Wii nunchuck is super-easy and internet communications (web and email) with such a tiny, inexpensive board is incredible.
The Arduino is a fun little board and with this book I was able to make it do some amazing things. I have worked with kids 12 to 15 and they are completely able to follow the book and get the projects working. It's a great way to encourage future engineers and scientists.
I can't say enough positive things about this book.

An Outstanding & Up To The Minute Tutorial On Arduino Applications
By Ira Laefsky
Maik Schmidt has produced an outstanding and engaging tutorial on the use of the popular open-source microcontroller, Arduino in wide and expanding use by programmers, electronics hobbyists, hackers and artists throughout the world. This guide provides detailed instruction on the use of the Arduino board and the corresponding software interface/IDE, giving detailed and exciting projects (that have been fully tested with the recently released Uno Revision of the circuit card) allowing the absolute beginner in electronics to assemble, program and test applications from a minimal flash an LED exercise through sophisticated but easily assembled exercises involving constructing a universal remote control, through a burglar alarm that communicated via email. Detailed and almost fool-proof instructions have been provided for constructing each exercise, allowing a complete electronics novice to assemble and test all of the exciting examples--e.g., including an interface to the Wii Nunchuck. Each electronics construction exercise includes a complete list of the components you need to construct the project, a theory of operation section fully describing the operation of the new electronics components introduced in this experiment, clear gray-scale photographs and diagrams giving the wire-by-wire connections that you will duplicate and a troubleshooting section entitled "What if it doesn't work?" that enables the complete novice to construct and debug these exciting Arduino controlled hardware projects. Software in C, C++, and the Processing graphical language is described in sufficient detail for the novice programmer to follow the code provided. It would seem this excellent but module level description of code is directed at an individual who as at least a passing acquaintance with programming in some modern software language as opposed to the hardware construction directions that cover each and every wire and component.

I would highly recommend this clear, up-to-date, and illustrated with exciting but easy-to-follow construction and testing exercises, introduction to the Arduino Microcontroller. It will enable the individual whose only prior exposure to computing is following simple code examples out of a book to construct sophisticated internet connected and electro-mechanical projects on their own with this popular open source platform. They will move easily from the stage of a microcontroller complete beginner, to one who can independently think and construct sophisticated projects in this ever-more-popular Maker's hobby.

Simply a Great Book
By S. Roedder
This book is a great start if you're looking for a really pragmatic introduction into the Arduino world. It's full of very well documented examples that really work. Both the hardware/electronics and the software parts are easy to follow. For example, I never tried to use twitter programmatically and it took me just one evening to make it work with an Arduino. May it be a burglar detection, a remote control or just a binary dice: This book provides a comprehensive introduction in all kinds of sensors you need and how to make them work.
If you're interessted in electronics and have already written small pieces of C or C++ code before, I can truly recommend this book!
